We had a great long weekend to celebrate Memorial Day! I was so spoiled by having the extra day off...it felt like a Monday all day long today though!
On Monday, we went to the country club for the Memorial Day Pool Party. I wondered all morning if the rain would hold off and if it would be worth the effort to back the kids and pool gear to go. We ventured over and had lunch with Josh and his parents. The rain had not yet started, so after lunch Josh played golf and Lily tried out the pool.
She was so excited about the kiddie pool - they have a big mushroom sprinkler and she thought it would be so fun to play in. It may have been fun - but the water was ice cold. She hated it!! She entertained herself by playing in some of the smaller sprinklers, but as soon as she began to venture into the pool again it began to rain. We hurried to the car to beat the storm we thought was approaching.
Halfway home, the sun came out - and Lily wanted to swim some more. Fortunately, we have a small pool in our subdivision, so we walked over and spent a hour or so there. The water there was warmer and Lily had Bear's float to use. Bear had no interest in getting in the water, so he watched her from the lounge chair with me. Another storm popped up and we once again raced to the car.
We took power naps and then met up with Josh after his round of golf to go to a cookout with some friends from church. We had a great time hanging out with Dawn, Jay and Eron and the kids played with the other kiddos!
It was a great day and a fun official start to the summer! Now if July 4th and our beach trip could just come a bit quicker!!

Summer is a Coming...
We are absolutely loving that summer is quickly approaching. The weather, though slightly rainy, has been so beautiful. My sweet little ones are loving that the season to play outside is finally here.
Here are a few pictures from Saturday. Lily is the perpetual "big sister". She wants Bear to do what she is doing, all of the time. It's so cute! She grabs his hand - sometimes even when he wants nothing to do with her - and says gently "Come with me Bubba."
They loved running in circles together and then falling down in the grass. I even got in on their fun for a bit and it was so relaxing to be a kid again for a few moments with them.

After the twirling fun, Lily sat and explained to Bear that the grass is green and the sky is blue. I can already imagine the fun she'll have in a few more years pretending to play school and be his teacher!
I love being momma to the two of you. Though it can be hectic at time having two young children, it's so rewarding to see the love and friendship that exists between you!

So Proud
I have to brag on my husband for a minute - I am so proud of him. As most of you know, in March, he started his on business, Black Oak Asset Management. He has been doing financial planning for quite a while now, but his dream has always been to have his own firm. Several things have occurred over the last 6 months that put him in a position to successful move out and work truly for himself. His dream is now a reality - and I couldn't be prouder of him.
He's worked so hard to get where he is - and is working even harder now, if that's possible! We had his official ribbon cutting with the Chamber of Commerce this week where we were all able to celebrate his hard work and perseverance coming to fruition.
God has been so good to us - and we know that Josh's success is truly a God thing, not a McWhorter thing. We are also so grateful to all the friends, family, and clients who've supported him in this new endeavor. We couldn't be more excited as we embark on our newest adventure!

Awana Night
Tonight, Lily had her end of the year Awana program. Awana is a program at our church that teaches kids about the Bible.
Lily has been involved in the Puggles class on Wednesday nights with other 2/3 year olds. The Puggles learned about 3 major precepts this year:
God made everything
God is love
Give thanks
Tonight, she went on stage with her class to recite their three precepts. They did great and were all in awe of the crowd watching them. Josh and I agreed that she seems like such a big girl - not a baby in the nursery anymore! Mother's Day
It's hard to believe that I celebrated my 4th Mother's Day this past weekend! We had a wonderful time!
On Saturday, I met my dearest friend Diana and her sweet little one, Mason, for lunch. Bear and I were on our way to Commerce - more on that in a minute - and had a great visit with them. Bear and Mason are only about 8 weeks apart, so we've enjoyed going through being moms of boys together. It was fun catching up with Diana and also seeing the boys interact with each other. I didn't have my camera, but Diana got a few good ones and I'll add when she posts them!
We then continued on our way to Commerce, GA to meet my parents. When we went last weekend to Columbia to visit them, I left something behind - Lily! She stayed the week with my parents and they even added on a trip to the Western NC mountains to their granddaughter visit! She had so much fun, but boy is she rotten now! It was so cute to see how excited she was to see me! She hugged me tighter than she ever has and it still brings a smile to my face when I recall the look on her face when I walked in to get her.
Saturday evening, Josh took us to the mall to let me pick out some new work clothes for Mother's Day. He was a good sport and chased the kids around the mall while I shopped! I found one new summer work outfit, which is typically hard for me to do. We have a pretty conservative dress policy - so cropped pants, no sleeveless shirts - and all the cute stuff out is sleeveless and cropped!!
Sunday morning, we went to church and got to participate in the annual "Baby Parade" with Bear. Our church does baby dedications throughout the year, but on Mother's Day, all the babies under 2 are shown off to the congregation in one big group! Last year, Bear was one of the smallest and this year, he was closer to being the biggest! After church, we had lunch at one of my favorite restaurants, Heath and Harvest. Lunch was a bit stressful - we forgot that Mother's Day was the busiest eating out day of the year and waited an hour to be seated. By the time our food came, our kids had had enough and were ready to go. Josh and I ate quickly, in true parent fashion, and went home for naps.
After naps on Sunday, Lily and I went to have pedicures as another Mother's Day gift from my sweet husband. Lily had never been to the nail salon, but was so excited to go. I had a pedicure and Lily got her fingernails and toenails painted. She was a little unsure about what to think about the Vietnamese women talking to her at first, but soon opened up and even sat in her own chair. We had so much fun together and I think this will definitely have to be a new tradition we start!
Josh surprised me with some more new clothes he picked out for me, since I didn't find much at the mall on Saturday and then we had dinner on Sunday evening with his family! It was such a fun weekend!

A Morning at the Museum
The kids and I spent the weekend in Columbia visiting my parents. Josh put on a golf tournament for clients of his new company, Black Oak Asset Management, so he stayed behind to hold down the fort.
On Saturday morning, Mom and I took Lily and Bear to the EdVenture Children's Musuem in Columbia. EdVenture is a huge facility with permanent and seasonal exhibits designed to give hands on exploration to kids of all ages. We only had a couple of hours to spend at the museum so we had to narrow down to the exhibits we thought they'd enjoy the most.
We started out in one of the seasonal exhibits - Curious George. Lily and Bear both love Curious George cartoons so we knew this one would be a hit. In this room, there was a windmill area, where the kids could use wind machines to blow air at a scene with Curious George and windmills, a matching game with different Curious George scenes, and an area of Curious George themed miniature golf.
Next, we visited the Africa exhibit, where they played drums with an African tribe, rode a camel, and crossed a suspension bridge. Lily really loved the drum room, as a tv screen projected on the wall where it seemed like she was on a tv show playing the drums in an African village.
Our favorite area was the grocery store - the kids had their own shopping carts and browsed the "store" for their favorite staples. Lily picked out several boxes of cereal, while Bear opted for more variety, choosing Hamburger Helper, raisins, fresh fruit, and oatmeal. They then proceeded to the checkout and "scanned" their selections. They had tons of fun in this exhibit and were upset when we had to put their groceries back.
Other sites we saw were - a fire engine, complete with a fireman's pole to slide down, a car with gas pump, a John Deere tractor and garden (part of the farm exhibit) and a backyard camp out room designed just for children 3 and under.
The museum was a lot of fun, but Saturday morning was not the smartest choice for a visit. It was crowded and their were lots of big kids. We'll definitely go back, but I think a weekday morning would be much better. There were a lot of exhibits we didn't get to check out, including the outdoor water/bubble factory that are on our list for our next visit.
Batter Up
On Tuesday night, Josh took the kids and I to see a Rome Braves game. Saunders and Century Bank gave us tickets to go and Tuesday couldn't have been a more perfect night. The weather was perfect - not too warm, not too cool. We had a quick dinner at the Fuddrucker's across the street from the stadium and then headed in to watch the Braves take on the Augusta Green Jackets.
If you've never been to State Mutual Stadium in Rome, it's really nice. It's designed to be a mini "Turner Field." All the seats are great, but the tickets given to us by Century were right behind home plate. We sat there for a few innings, but the kids got restless and we moved up a bit higher as to not to bother the fans sitting around us. They loved the new seats, as we had the whole row to ourselves and they were able to walk around a bit and switch seats around.
Lily loved the music and danced the whole night. Each Braves player gets an intro song played as they are approaching home plate to bat. Lily danced her little heart out, though Josh and I were a bit embarrassed by the songs she liked most (they weren't 3 year old appropriate). Bear enjoyed watching the batters hit the baseballs and clapping with all the fans when the Braves made a good play.
We stayed though the 6th inning and then left to head home. On the way out, Josh got us a big bag of cotton candy to enjoy on the way home - what a treat! We had such a fun night - thanks again Saunders!
