Halloween Tutu

Lily has decided that she wants to be a cat for Halloween. Bear is going to be a fireman and Lily said that she "wants to be the kitty that Bear saves from the tree" I've looked online and in stores for a cute kitten costume, but have been disappointed. Some that are for young girls are borderline inappropriate, in my opinion. I came up with the idea for Lily to wear cat ears, black shirt and leggings, and a black and white tutu. I've wanted to try making a tutu for a while and this gave me the perfect opportunity to.

So - I started with this

And now have this

There's a little more work to do on her costume, but I'm so pleased with how it's coming together! She'll be the cutest cat around on Halloween!

A Yummy Dessert - Fruit Pizza

Lily is enjoying more to help me around the house - cooking, cleaning, etc...In an effort to allow her to help me more in the kitchen, I've been trying to find more easy recipes that allow her to have a hand in cooking. On Thursday night, we tried a fruit pizza. It turned out great and Lily had some much fun making it. Before baths, we rolled out a tube of cookie dough onto the pizza stone. Lily did a great job getting the dough flattened out and I helped shape it into a circle to resemble a pizza. We baked it and while it cooled we did baths and put Bear to bed. After the cookie was cooled, I mixed together a block of cream cheese and a tub of Cool Whip to use as our "pizza sauce". Lily spread it over the cookie. She then added her "toppings": strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries.

Lily was so proud of her creation. It came out quite tasty, but more importantly it was so great to see how much fun she had helping out in the kitchen! I know we are in for many more years of this type of fun.

My Bad News Bear

Bear has had quite the week for mishaps and accidents! On Monday night, I went to a friend's baby shower and left Josh home with the kids for a bit. He does great on "daddy duty" and was even cleaning the kitchen for me. He sent Lily and Bear upstairs to start getting ready for bed. All of a sudden, he heard something falling down the stairs. Lily and Bear are both notorious for throwing their toys down the stairs - they love to hear the loud thud when the plastic hits our hardwood floor in the foyer. This time, the thud was followed by tears, not laughter! Bear was at the bottom of our stairs.
Once Josh saw that Bear was fine, Lily gingerly walked up and said "Bear, I'm sorry I pushed you." Josh was horrified...as she retold the story, he learned that they were racing up the stairs and she held out her arm to stop Bear from beating her. She immediately felt terrible and has been sooo sweet to him ever since. I walked in as Josh was disciplining her and heard the whole story. We are so lucky that he wasn't hurt at all! Thank you Lord for keeping him safe and protecting him in a situation that could have been very bad.

Bear's accidents haven't stopped there this week. On Wednesday, he came home with an awful scratch on his face. Lily's version of the story is "A bug crawled on his face and scratched him" - but we're really not sure what happened!

Today, he was playing with Lily's fire man's hat from her field trip and got a huge welp on his cheek from the elastic strap!

Thanks goodness tomorrow is Friday - hopefully Bear's "Bad News" week is coming to an end!

Fire Station Fun

Lily's class had a field trip to the fire station today! She enjoyed herself so much. This morning when we were getting her ready, she was so excited. She couldn't stop talking about getting to walk to the fire station if it wasn't raining! Luckily the rain held off and she got to enjoy the outing with her school friends. She got to meet a fireman, tour the fire station (she loved seeing where the fire men sleep), saw a puppet show about fire saftey, and had a picnic snack at the fountain on the square. Here are a few pictures from her day!

Attempt 3 - it started to rain, so we headed home from the park! We're settling in for a night of football, pizza, and chips and dip - it doesn't get any better than this!

When a quiet child isn't a good thing

This is what happens when you leave your curious 21 month old to play alone in the office/playroom/craft storage/etc... room. Quiet is not always good, especially when momma walks into this:

I guess he was showing his Cartersville Hurricane spirit on Friday by dumping purple glitter all over the floor! If you see a McWhorter this weekend with sparkly feet or shoes, you'll know why. It's up now, but we keep finding hints of glitter all over the house!
