After work on Wednesday, our friends Kristi, Mae and Nate came over for an evening picnic and swim at our pool. We finished around 8 and came home to get baths and get ready for bed. Josh had just gotten in from work and I had quickly run to my room to change before giving the kids baths. Lily and Bear were racing to see who would get the first bath. From the story they later told us, Lily must have been just ahead of Bear and in an effort to secure her "victory", she slammed the bathroom door. Poor Bear was a little too close behind and his finger was caught in the door frame.
Bear rarely cries - and when he does, it's normally this fake, whiney cry when he wants something or is just trying to get attention. The cry that followed was very different for him and Josh and I both rushed to see what had happened. His poor finger was bleeding pretty heavily, which concerned both of us. Josh quickly got him dressed and took him to the ER, just to get checked out. Since it was late in the evening and it was just his finger and not entire hand, he went to the local Cartersville ER, rather than driving down to Atlanta to go to Children's. They spent a few hours getting x-rays and cleaned up - the verdict was a broken finger and he'll lose his fingernail in the coming weeks. They bandaged him up and sent him home!
This pic isn't great, as it is from Josh's phone as they were leaving the hospital - I'll spare you the fingernail pics :)
Lily left for the beach on Friday, so on Saturday, we treated Bear to a date with Momma and Daddy. We went to see Cars 2, which he loved, and out for dinner! It was a nice way to reward him for being such a brave little boy over the last few days!
We went to our pediatrician today to let her check his finger before we leave for vacation. I was a little unsure, from the discharge papers Josh brought home from the ER, how long Bear had to wear his bandage and splint. She assured me it was healing fine and gave him the all clear to enjoy the pool and ocean! Thank goodness - Florida, we'll be seeing you real soon!
