Zoo Trip

We are having such a fun, busy summer! On Tuesday, we headed out to Zoo Atlanta with our good friends, Katie and Katie Anne. The Jones's have a annual pass and invited us along with them for the day. We set out early and made it to the zoo just as it was opening. This worked out perfectly - we were able to move through the different exhibits before the crowds and heat got too bad.

Our first stop was the playground. It was big and the kiddos made a beeline for the giant see-saw. They had a blast bouncing up and down on it. We played for a bit and moved on when a camp full of older kids joined us in the play area.
We saw lots of fun monkeys, both small...
and big.
We spent some in the petting zoo area too. Here, Lily and Katie Anne are being so sweet and brushing the goats. They loved to chase the different animals around and rub them with the colorful plastic brushes. Bear was a bit more timid around the animals - he got a brush like the bigger girls, but insisted on holding on to momma too as inched near the goats. We got to see a panda eating a snack of bamboo - and got hand stamps to mark the occasion.

The tiger exhibit was not open, but we got to see (and hear) a big lion. I didn't get a picture of the lion, but did of my little lion :) The lion was definitely Bear's favorite visit of the day!
And last, but not least, the elephants. Lily asked all morning about seeing the elephants. At first, we really couldn't see the elephants, but it looked as if the zookeepers would be bringing one of them in to the indoor observation area. We stepped outside for a few minutes to love on the elephant statue....

and then Lily snuck back in to see her favorite up close!
We finished off the morning with a picnic lunch in a grassy area outside of the zoo gates. The kids ran off what little bit of energy they had left and then we all piled into the air conditioned car for our long ride home. We just knew they would all pass out from exhaustion during the hour long drive back to Cartersville - no such luck! They were all still so excited from the zoo and from getting to ride together across the back seat of the car that our car room was filled with shrieks and giggles instead of snores! It was such a fun morning and we are so thankful for such sweet friends to include us in on their fun outing!

What a fun trip!! Last time I went to the zoo....I went into labor the same day :) Mason wouldn't have a thing to do with the goats either....in fact, he screamed so loud when one got near him! I love the new pic of the three of you!

We had such a good time with you guys - you got some wonderful pictures of the kids! I love the one of the girls at the petting zoo and the three of you! We'll definitely have to do the zoo again - maybe in the fall when it's a little cooler, though! :)
