Tubes no more

This week, Bear went in for his ENT check-up. Bear has had tubes since January of last year and when they were placed, Dr. Sipp warned us that given his young age at the time of the surgery he didn't expect the tubes to stay in more than a year.
Well, a year and half later, they were still hanging in there. At our January appointment, Bear had started having some earaches again and we discovered that the tubes were starting to fall out of place. That visit was tough for him - he didn't not like having his ears poked and prodded. At this week's visit, the nurse practitioner could quickly see that both tubes were out of place and it was time to take them out.
She took us back to a procedure room and laid Bear down on the table to use a microscope to help guide her as she removed the tiny tubes. Bear did not like this one bit - he cried harder than I've heard him cry in quite a while. Lily was such a sweet big sister during the ordeal, standing beside me, rubbing his arm, and gently saying "It's okay sweet boy". In no time at all, she had the tiny metal tubes out and calmed Bear's tears by offering a lollipop.
The tubes were so tiny - they were right in saying I may not have noticed if they'd fallen out at home on their own. The audiologist quickly checked Bear's hearing and gave him a clean bill of health! We don't even have to come back in unless we have 2 ear infections in a row or 1 really tough one that doesn't get better with antibiotics.

My silly little boyBear - pre tears - couldn't you just eat him up!
